Tampa Bay Rays – Emilio Pagan picked up his second save in as many days, striking out two of the three hitters he faced in a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Kevin Cash praised Pagan after the game and noted that both Jose Alvarado and Diego Castillo will be available on Wednesday after two straight days of rest.
Updated hierarchy: *Alvarado | Castillo | Pagan.
* = closer-by-committee
New York Yankees — As we predicted in yesterday’s Vulture Save Watch, Aroldis Chapman got a night off and Zack Britton recorded a 1-2-3 inning for his first save of the season.
Hierarchy remains: Chapman | Britton | Ottavino.
New York Mets – Justin Wilson is on the 10-day IL with elbow soreness, so Seth Lugo should see a few more hold opportunities this week.
Updated hierarchy: Diaz | Familia | Lugo.
San Diego Padres — Kirby Yates lowered his ERA to 0.69 last night, which is nice.
Hierarchy remains: Yates | Stammen | Wingenter.
VULTURE SAVE WATCH
Today
1. Zack Britton – Aroldis Chapman may get a second night off after throwing 45 pitches over Sunday and Monday, especially if the lead is three. Britton only needed seven pitches to get Tuesday’s save.
Tomorrow
1. Jared Hughes – If Raisel Iglesias pitches today, it’s unlikely he’ll get the ball for a third straight day on Thursday.
2. Ty Buttrey – Today would also be two straight for Cody Allen.
3. Drew Steckenrider – Same goes for Sergio Romo.
4. Zack Britton/Adam Ottavino – If Chapman does pitch tonight, that would be three of four for him.
