Paul Fry continues his sparkling run

May 11, 2021

Baltimore Orioles – Paul Fry pitched a perfect 8th inning with 2 Ks on Monday, earning his fifth hold of the season. The outing lowered his ERA to 1.26 for the year, and he’s likely surpassed Tanner Scott — who has been mostly effective but has struggled with control issues — as the handcuff in Baltimore.

Updated hierarchy: Valdez | Fry | Scott.

Arizona Diamondbacks – Stefan Crichton picked up his fourth save of the season on Monday. As the only Diamondback to get a save since April 4, we’re removing his asterisk. Elsewhere in Arizona’s system, Ryan Buchter opened up to Sports Illustrated about the mental health issues that he — and many journeymen struggling to stick in the bigs — deal with on a routine basis. It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and it’s been a damn tough year for everyone, so we’re spotlighting this article while urging our readers to please seek help if you need it.

Updated hierarchy: Crichton | Ginkel | Soria.

VULTURE SAVE WATCH
Today

1. Aaron Slegers – Raisel Iglesias and Mike Mayers have gone three straight, while Tony Watson has gone back to back on the heels of a DL activation. It’ll be dealer’s choice for the Angels if they have a lead tonight; we think Slegers has the best shot.

Tomorrow
1. Joakim Soria – If Stefan Crichton goes tonight, it’ll be back to back.
2. Paul Fry – Same for Cesar Valdez.
