Capping his team’s rally and locking down his 16th save, Paul Sewald fired a clean bottom of the ninth and recorded a strikeout against the Reds. He threw 13 pitches (69.2 Strike%) and produced one whiff. He has been scoreless in nine of his last 10 appearances, recording two wins and converting all seven save chances while posting a 0.40 WHIP with nine strikeouts versus one walk (23.5 K-BB%) through 10 innings.
- Kevin Ginkel collected his second win, working around a walk (intentional) and a hit for a scoreless eighth ahead of his team’s three-run ninth.
- Taylor Clarke tossed two scoreless frames, yielding a hit and two walks while striking out two.

Three Takeaways
Walker’s back, and it’s Kilian? In his first outing back from Triple-A, Ryan Walker fired a clean top of the ninth, striking out one against the Cubs’ 6-7-8 lineup pocket, throwing 16 pitches (75 Strike%) with two whiffs (12.5 SwStr%). Before the game, Tony Vitello named Caleb Kilian his closer, confirmed in this game recap by Susan Slusser for The San Francisco Chronicle:

Hogan is a hero: Entering at the top of the eighth with a runner on and two outs, Hogan Harris induced an inning-ending groundout against Troy Johnston, then returned for the ninth and retired the side with two strikeouts, securing his sixth save. He threw 21 pitches (16 strikes – 76.2 Strike%) and produced three whiffs (14.3 SwStr%). Through six outings in June, he has a win while converting two of three save chances and a hold while posting a 1.00 WHIP with eight strikeouts versus one walk (31.8 K-BB%).
- Mason Barnett collected his first win, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, yielding a hit and striking out one.
- Justin Sterner was tagged with his second blown save, letting all three inherited runners score at the top of the sixth, including a three-run home run by Cole Carrigg, putting an earned run on his ledger.

Yates on the hot seat? Called on with two outs and two runners on to protect a one-run lead, Ryan Zeferjahn walked Junior Caminero before recording a game-ending strikeout of Cedric Mullins for his second save. He only threw three of his nine pitches (33.3 Strike%) for strikes and induced one whiff.
Mitch Farris gets credit for his first hold. He logged 2.2 innings, allowing three hits, an earned run, and two walks while striking out two. Chase Silseth notched his sixth hold, giving up a hit and striking out two in a scoreless sixth. Most notably, Kirby Yates was not deployed in a save opportunity and was well rested, having last pitched on June 9.

Cleveland Guardians – Shutting the door on his MLB-leading 22nd save, Cade Smith fired a clean top of the ninth against Detroit’s 2-3-4 hitters and recorded one strikeout. He threw 13 pitches (10 strikes – 76.9 Strike%) and induced one whiff. Since his second blown save on April 14, he has converted his last 19 save opportunities while posting a 0.896 WHIP with 36 strikeouts versus two walks (41 K-BB%) across 22.1 innings.

Houston Astros – Sealing a two-run lead in Kansas City, Josh Hader notched his second save, retiring the side on 20 pitches (75 Strike%) with two whiffs. He has been scoreless through his first five appearances this season, allowing one walk and recording seven strikeouts (37.5 K-BB%) through five innings.
- Bryan King let both inherited runners score, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out one during two-thirds of the eighth for his sixth hold.
- Enyel De Los Santos gave up three hits and three earned runs while striking out one in one-third of the eighth.

Minnesota Twins – Putting the bow on a back-and-forth contest, Andrew Morris recorded his second save, retiring the side against the Cardinals’ 4-5-6 batters. This snapped a three-game streak during which he allowed multiple runs in each while giving up 11 hits, seven earned runs, and two walks over 4.2 innings.

- Yoendrys Gómez allowed three hits and an earned run during one-third of the eighth.

New York Mets – Securing his first four-out save since May 28, 2023, Devin Williams stranded one of two inherited runners at the top of the eighth, giving up an RBI single by Eli White, then retired Rowdy Tellez on a shallow fly to left. In the ninth, he navigated around Mauricio Dúbon’s one-out single with consecutive strikeouts against Michael Harris II and Matt Olson for his tenth save. He threw 33 pitches (27 strikes – 81.8 Strike%) and produced four whiffs (12.1 SwStr%). He’s appeared in back-to-back games and thrown 49 pitches while converting both save chances.
- Brooks Raley allowed three hits, two earned runs, and struck out one during two-thirds of the eighth.
- Huascar Brazobán logged 1.2 scoreless frames, striking out four.

- Colorado Rockies: Although Zach Agnos stranded a runner at the bottom of the fifth, he was charged with his second loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two across his 2.2-inning outing in Las Vegas. Seth Halvorsen gave up two solo home runs and a walk during two-thirds of the fifth before being removed.
- Los Angeles Dodgers: Summoned at the bottom of the fifth, Blake Treinen let all three inherited runners score, giving up two hits and had one earned run on his ledger during two-thirds of an inning.
- Pittsburgh Pirates: For a second straight appearance, Wilber Dotel suffered a loss, his second on the season, giving up four hits, four earned runs, and three walks while striking out two across 1.2 innings.
