Three Takeaways

Red Alert still in effect: Called upon at the bottom of the fifth, Brock Burke let his only inherited runner score, giving up an RBI double by Jordan Walker and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless appearance. Zach Maxwell gave up three hits, four earned runs, and a walk while striking out one during one-third of the sixth. Luis Mey allowed a hit, two earned runs, and three walks during one-third of the sixth. Zach McCambley worked 2.1 scoreless innings, stranding the bases loaded in the sixth. He finished with a hit and a walk while striking out two in the eventual loss. The young relievers were roughed up in this contest, and Burke was used in the fifth. It’s tough to trust any reliever in this leverage ladder right now. With trepidation:

Rough Rockies outcome: After retiring the side in the eighth, Antonio Senzatela returned for the ninth with a two-run lead and a combined one-hitter. However, Brice Turang led off with a single, and then Senzatela turned a potential double play into runners on first and third due to his throwing error. Jake Bauers followed with an RBI single, and Sal Frelick produced a two-out, game-tying RBI double, then Andrew Vaughn produced a two-RBI single, hanging four runs (three earned) on Senzatela’s line while recording four strikeouts across 1.2 innings, resulting in his second blown save. Brennan Bernardino retired Christian Yelich, ending the inning. Juan Mejia took over at the top of the tenth, suffering his fifth loss, giving up three hits, four runs (three earned), and two walks while striking out one across one-third of the inning. Seth Halvorsen stranded both inherited runners, walking and striking out one during two-thirds of the tenth. Before the chaos, Jaden Hill notched his 11th hold with a scoreless seventh, issuing a walk and striking out one. This loss felt like a self-inflicted wound when the throwing error opened the door for the Brewers. Speaking of open doors, has Halvorsen reentered the mix for a save chance?
