Andrew Chafin looks like the closer in Arizona

April 18, 2023

Miami Marlins – AJ Puk got his second save of the year, pitching a scoreless 9th. Dylan Floro pitched a scoreless 8th and has been great thus far, allowing 0 runs in 7.2 innings to start his season, and this still feels like a committee approach. But given that Puk has two saves and Floro is yet to get one, we’ll swap them for the time being.

Updated hierarchy: *Puk | Floro | Scott.
* = closer-by-committee

Los Angeles Angels – Carlos Estevez got his second save of the season on Monday, which makes his spot atop this committee slightly more secure. Jose Quijada, who pitched the 8th and has yet to allow a run on the year, remains an option.

Updated hierarchy: *Estevez | Quijada | Herget.
* = closer-by-committee

Arizona Diamondbacks – Andrew Chafin picked up his third save of the year and has seized control of the 9th inning role. Scott McGough could work his way back in, but for now, we’re removing the asterisk.

Updated hierarchy: Chafin | McGough | Castro.

New York Mets – David Robertson was given the night off after pitching in two straight, allowing Adam Ottavino to pick up the vulture save, as we forecasted yesterday.

Hierarchy remains: *Robertson | Ottavino | Raley.
* = closer-by-committee
