Chicago White Sox
Presented with a three-run lead at the bottom of the ninth in Philadelphia, Grant Taylor nailed down his second save, striking out the side, including a game-ending one against Kyle Schwarber on three pitches. Taylor threw 13 of 14 pitches for strikes (92.9 Strike%) and generated five whiffs (35.7 SwStr%).

He’s been scoreless over his last five appearances, recording 12 strikeouts against zero walks (50 K-BB%) and a 0.429 WHIP across seven innings with an 18 percent swinging strike rate (18 whiffs in 100 pitches).
- Sean Newcomb stranded two runners in the sixth and logged 2.1 scoreless innings, yielding a hit and striking out three for his fourth hold.
- Sean Burke worked as the “bulk follower,” collecting his third win, allowing three hits, three earned runs, and five walks while striking out seven over 4.1 innings.
Fantasy players have been down this road before with Taylor. He recorded a save on May 19 in Seattle, then went five appearances until this save opportunity. He would be their best option at closer, but Will Venable has been hesitant to use him in this manner. With a grain of salt:
Updated Hierarchy: *Seranthony Domínguez | *Grant Taylor | Bryan Hudson

Three Takeaways
Fishing for command: Thrust into the fire with the bases loaded and two outs, Tyler Zuber recorded his first career save in his 68th career outing, striking out Junior Caminero on five pitches, all strikes, with one whiff. Pete Fairbanks was credited with his second hold, allowing two hits, two earned runs, and three walks during two-thirds of the ninth. He was not commanding his pitches, throwing 39 pitches (24 strikes – 61.5 Strike%) while producing five whiffs (12.8 SwStr%). First, his illustrator:

It’s the first time since he was placed on the injured list that he has allowed three walks, and the second instance this season. Over his nine appearances since May, he owns a 1.625 WHIP with 10 strikeouts versus six walks (10.8 K-BB%) with a 13.9 percent swinging strike rate. His hold on the ninth may be tenuous, but he has a bit more runway as the closer, at least for now:
Hierarchy Remains: Pete Fairbanks | Michael Petersen | Anthony Bender
A Royal Flush? Preserving a one-run lead, Alex Lange navigated around Kody Clemens’ leadoff double and a two-out hit-by-pitch against Victor Caratini with a game-ending strikeout of Royce Lewis for his third save. In fact, he recorded all three outs via strikeout, throwing 16 of 28 pitches for strikes (57.1 Strike%) and only inducing two whiffs (7.1 SwStr%).

He’s converted three saves in the last four days despite allowing multiple baserunners in all three appearances. Lange has been scoreless over his last eight games, posting a 1.091 WHIP with nine strikeouts versus two walks across 7.1 innings. In this outing, Matt Strahm collected his third win despite allowing a go-ahead solo home run at the bottom of the eighth. Lucas Erceg tossed a scoreless seventh, walking and striking out one against the Twins’ 4-5-6-7 batters. The game announcers referred to Erceg as the closer working his way back to the role. Can he usurp hot hand, Lange? For now:
