Detroit Tigers – Despite an ERA that was over 8 in mid-May, the Tigers keep giving Mark Lowe a chance to right his ship. Lowe, in turn, has responded with four scoreless outings over the past week, including clean 8th innings on Sunday and Monday which earned him his 7th and 8th holds of the season. For now, he’s returned to his role as the righthanded complement to Justin Wilson.
Updated hierarchy: Rodriguez | J.Wilson | Lowe.
Texas Rangers – In his first outing since being demoted, Shawn Tolleson posted two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. He’s got a ways to go before the Rangers trust him with the 9th inning again, but a few more outings like this combined with a slip up from Sam Dyson would have him back in the conversation.
Hierarchy remains: Dyson | Diekman | Bush.
VULTURE SAVE WATCH
1. Kevin Siegrist, St. Louis Cardinals – Trevor Rosenthal has pitched on Saturday and Monday, which in most cases would be fine, except he’s racked up 54 pitches in the process. So on a day when virtually every closer is relatively well-rested, Kevin Siegrist has the best chance of any middle reliever to nab a vulture save.
