New York Mets – Jenrry Mejia blew the save and took the loss on Sunday, and after the game, revealed that he is battling both a sore calf (which we knew about) and a hernia injury (which we didn’t know about). Given this information, we’ll move Mejia to the Hot Seat, partly because Jeurys Familia has been so good, but mostly because it’s likely that the Mets will shut Mejia down if he’s not effective in attempting to pitch through these two injuries.
Hierarchy remains: Mejia | Familia | Black.
Jenrry Mejia to Hot Seat.
Detroit Tigers – Joakim Soria’s injury was indeed serious, and on Sunday, the Tigers placed him on the disabled list. This likely gives a slightly longer leash to the embattled Joe Nathan; Joba Chamberlain is now the handcuff in Detroit.
Updated hierarchy: Nathan | Chamberlain | Alburquerque.
Chicago Cubs – Neil Ramirez was activated from the disabled list on Sunday. Ramirez was the clear set-up man before he hit the DL, though he’ll have to work his way back up before we return him to that place in our hierarchy.
Hierarchy remains: Rondon | Strop | Fujikawa.
Toronto Blue Jays – He won’t make his way on to the hierarchy any time soon, but former first round pick Chad Jenkins has earned a coveted mention in the Closer Monkey daily by pitching the 14th through 19th innings on Sunday. The six innings of scoreless relief allowed the Blue Jays to get the win in the longest game in the franchise’s history.
Hierarchy remains: Janssen | McGowan | Loup.
