Matt Barnes and Anthony Bender have nights to forget

May 5, 2022

Boston Red Sox — Matt Barnes gave up four runs (three earned) in the top of the tenth on Wednesday, and acknowledged after the game that he’s been “terrible” this season. Hansel Robles and Jake Diekman combined to blow the save an inning earlier, so nothing is going particularly well in the Boston bullpen these days.

Hierarchy remains: *Diekman | Robles | Barnes.
* = closer-by-committee

Miami Marlins — Anthony Bender blew his second save on Wednesday in a loss to Atlanta, but fortunately for Miami, Dylan Floro is close to a return.

Hierarchy remains: *Bender | Sulser | Scott.
* = closer-by-committee

Detroit Tigers — Andrew Chafin pitched the seventh for his first hold of the year on Wednesday, and he’s moved ahead of Joe Jimenez, who mopped up in a loss in the other doubleheader game.

Updated hierarchy: Soto | Fulmer | Chafin.

San Diego Padres — In a doubleheader on Wednesday, Robert Suarez blew a save in a loss and Luis Garcia pitched a scoreless eighth in a win. We’ll bump Suarez out of the hierarchy for now.

Updated hierarchy: Rogers | Wilson | Garcia.
