Jose Leclerc moves to the top of the Rangers’ committee while Tim Mayza records a save

September 11, 2022

Texas Rangers – Jonathan Hernandez pitched the 8th inning yesterday with the Rangers down four runs.  That’s certainly not the spot for a closer to pitch and although he didn’t allow any runs, he allowed a hit and two walks in the inning.  Hernandez has allowed eight walks in his last four innings.  Jose Leclerc recorded the last save for the Rangers and with the way Hernandez has been pitching, it seems likely he will get the next save chance as well so we will move Leclerc to the head of this committee.

Updated hierarchy: *Leclerc | Hernandez | Moore.
* = closer-by-committee

Toronto Blue Jays — Tim Mayza come on in the 8th inning yesterday with the Blue Jays up four runs,  but since the tying run was on deck, it was a save situation.  Mayza got Corey Seager to ground out to end the 8th and then came back out and fired a scoreless 9th inning to record the save.  Mayza has been solid this year, but he’s still behind Yimi Garcia and Anthony Bass.

Hierarchy remains: Romano | Garcia | Bass.

VULTURE SAVE WATCH

1. James Karinchak (CLE) – Emmanuel Clase has pitched in two straight and three of four.
2. Alex Colome (COL) – Daniel Bard and Carlos Estevez have both pitched in two straight.

2. Rowan Wick (CHC) – If Brandon Hughes pitches today, it will be three of four.
