Cleveland Guardians – James Karinchak pitched a perfect 8th inning with a pair of strikeouts (and this crazy celebration) before Emmanuel Clase got the 9th inning. Karinchak allowed runs in his first two outings after he was called up in July but now he has strung together ten straight scoreless appearances. We will see if Karinchak can keep it going and get back to last year’s early season form when he and Clase were a dynamic duo at the back-end of the Guardians bullpen.
Updated hierarchy: Clase | Stephan | Karinchak.
New York Yankees – Aroldis Chapman pitched a scoreless 8th inning in a tight game with the Yankees down by one. Chapman now has five straight scoreless appearances and has only allowed one hit and one walk over those five innings. Chapman was also in line to get the save opportunity on Friday night and that’s enough to bring him back onto the hierarchy.
Updated hierarchy: Holmes | Peralta | Chapman.
Seattle Mariners — The Mariners brought on Andres Munoz to face Shohei Ohtani with two outs in the 7th inning. Munoz struck out Ohtani and then came back out for a scoreless 8th inning. That left the save chance to Erik Swanson and he converted for his third save of the season. It was also Swanson’s sixth career save, which ties him for the most career saves by a player born in North Dakota.
Hierarchy remains: *Sewald | Munoz | Swanson.
* = closer-by-committee
St. Louis Cardinals — Ryan Helsley received the day off yesterday and Giovanny Gallegos picked up his 11th save of the season, just like the Vulture Save Watch predicted.
Hierarchy remains: Helsley | Gallegos | Cabrera.
