Felix Bautista secures first career save for Orioles

May 11, 2022

Baltimore Orioles – Jorge Lopez was placed on the bereavement list on Tuesday and will miss the next 3-7 days. As we suspected, Dillon Tate got the first save chance, but he was unable to complete the job, which allowed for Felix Bautista to get the final out for his first career save. Brandon Hyde said after the game he liked that matchup for Bautista, but it’s also easy to like a guy that can throw 102 on back-to-back nights. We’ll welcome Bautista into the hierarchy and see if he continues to garner high-leverage looks.

Updated hierarchy: *Tate | Bautista | Krehbiel.
* = closer-by-committee

Seattle Mariners — Paul Sewald got the last out of the eighth, and despite allowing a run in the ninth, closed out a 5-4 win for his first save of the season. Andres Muñoz was called on to get the last out of the sixth to protect a one-run lead. We’ll move Sewald up a spot in the hierarchy after Tuesday’s performance, but this is truly a committee, as he was the fourth different Mariner to collect one of the team’s four saves this season.

Updated hierarchy: *Muñoz | Sewald | Castillo.
* = closer-by-committee

Chicago White Sox – Kendall Graveman closed out Tuesday’s win as Liam Hendriks got the night off after having pitched in three of four.

Hierarchy remains: Hendriks | Graveman | Ruiz.

Boston Red Sox — John Schreiber picked up his first career save on Tuesday with two perfect innings of work. He entered the eighth with a 6-4 lead and then stayed on for the ninth after the Sox tacked on three runs. Schreiber, called up this past weekend, also got the eighth inning against the White Sox on Saturday with Boston holding on to a 1-0 lead. He has yet to allow a run in five MLB appearances this season and is worth keeping an eye on as the Red Sox try and figure out their late-inning plans.

Hierarchy remains: *Diekman | Robles | Barnes.
* = closer-by-committee
